MEDIA BLASTING

Facts....

It’s important to consider that your paint job is only as good as the surface preparation of the metal being painted. Media blasting is a fast, affordable and safe way completely strip paint, bondo, grime and most importantly, rust from your metal parts in order to provide a clean palette for coating.

Media Blasting is an excellent may to remove paint, rust and oxidation without damaging the surface of the metal. We use Glass Beads, Aluminum Oxide and Black Beauty (slag coal) in our enclosed cabinets. These abrasives have been proven to not only restore the metal to its bare metal, it leaves a surface that is excellent for our powder coating finished to adhere to. To the left is a picture of a set of wheels we have media blasted to a white metal finish. This ensures that all previous coatings have been removed prior to final pre-treatment.

and more facts....

Abrasive blasting, also known as grit blasting or sandblasting, utilizes blast equipment, such as air pressure systems, and wet blasting to propel a wide range of blasting media and grits including glass beads, aluminum oxide, steel shot, baking soda, walnut shells, corn cob and plastic blast media.

Abrasive blasting has been in use for over a century. A variety of blasting methods are employed by industries worldwide to remove paint & debris, prepare surfaces for paint & coatings, strengthen metal surfaces and adhesion, clean rust and grease, and engrave stone. Abrasive blasting offers significant cost and time savings over alternative methods. Additionally, blasting can replace the use of dangerous chemical strippers and solvents.

With the health dangers of silicosis from sandblasting, these alternative media offer safe blasting options , as well as being more effective in protecting substrates that are damaged with sandblasting.

Grit Blasting Equipment

Portable abrasive blasting equipment is available for onsite blasting of cars, boats, homes, buildings, stone, brick and wood. Blast rooms employ blasting equipment with specialized dust collection systems to protect against fire hazards. Additionally, airtight blast cabinets offer solutions for blasting smaller parts. Blast cabinets and rooms allow for easy clean up of media, which in many cases is reclaimable and reusable multiple times.
